バスケ

小さい頃からそんなに運動神経が良かったわけじゃないけど、やっと本気で取り組もうと思った。1年の終わりくらいから、家族もびっくりするくらいにずっと部活に熱中していました。やっぱり、レギュラーになりたかった。僕は中学の頃からバスケを始めた。きっかけはテレビでバスケのプロリーグが始まるのを見てほんとうにかっこいいと思ったってそれだけのこと。でも、純粋に色んなプレイスタイルの選手がいてその選手たちが組み合わさって、得点を取る。選手たちが輝いて見えた。特に千葉ジェッツの富樫選手を見たときに、体格に恵まれているわけではないと解説の人も行っていたんだけど、的確なパスと素早いドライブ。実直なプレイで自分もやってみたいとほんとうに思った。
とはいえ、最初は冷やかしではないけど、ちょっとかっこいいみたいな部分があったんだけど、夏の大会でものすごい意識が変わった。

3年のキノシタ先輩は、とても真面目で、練習後も一人残って自主練をしていた。でも冬の大会では一度も出られず負けてしまった。確かに接戦だったので仕方なかったかもしれないけど。コートの外からみんなに声を張り上げるようにかけて、キノシタ先輩自身もいつでも出られるようにアップを細かくやっていた。一度も出場できずに負けて悔しいはずなのに、試合後も周りを気遣っていた。
僕は…。先輩には申し訳ないんだけど、やっぱりせっかくやるからには試合に出たいと思った。

でも、致命的な欠点があった。
僕は小さかった。

クラスでも前から並んで2番目。実際中学からバスケを始めても体格さえ良ければ、センターとかで、出れるような状態ではあったんだけど、僕にはチャンスさえなさそうな感じ。周りは段々と成長期を迎えて、あっという間に見上げる状態。
僕は一向に成長期が来なくて。。。測定でも158cmを境にピタッと動かなくなった。

実際,バスケ部でも、同じく中学から始めたケントとかは、ぐんぐん伸びてて、今は178cmらしい。先輩からも可愛がられているし何度も試合に出ている。
やっぱり、憧れと努力だけじゃダメなのかも、と言うのはスポーツの世界では当然で、身長とか体格も才能の内みたいな風に言われるけど、とはいっても身長だけでレギュラーが選ばれてそれであきらめるなんて嫌だったし、何より最後の試合にキノシタ先輩のようになって…、自分は微笑みながら周りに声をかけられるか、と思ったらとにかく努力しようと思った。
でも、実際、僕ができる限りの速度で切り込んでも、ブロックショットをされるし、マンツーでついても上からスパスパとパスを通される。今現状だと「穴」と言われても仕方ないんだって現実を見た気がした。身長も、能力の１つだって体で痛感した。

でも絶対、もっと成長してレギュラーを獲ってチームのために頑張りたい！
だから僕にも成長期がきてほしい。
小さいながらに闘志を燃やしてレギュラー獲得を目標にもっと努力を始めたんです。

とはいっても、僕も2年生になった後は14歳。成長期といってもそろそろ来ないといけない。先輩に聞いても、「こればっかりは個人差があるしな」「実際に背を伸ばすことはできない」というばかり。だから、自分で色々やらないといけないと思ったんです。牛乳は当然ですよね。親にもお願いしたり、お年玉から、高い器具を買ってみたり、部活動だけじゃない努力もやってきました。
でも、そう簡単ではありませんでした。めっちゃ焦っていました。トレーニングはかかさずやってきたので、ディフェンス、オフェンスでも横の動きはいいねといわれるのですが、やはり「縦」では全くかなわない。パス回しでは完全に、僕のところを起点にされる。身長なんだ。身長さえあれば。みんなに迷惑をかけているような気さえしていました。
